You’ll find me sitting there In my favourite chair Wasting my life away Thinking and drinking Financially sinking Can anyone help me today Well there’s you and there’s me And the air that we breathe And the love and the life that we share It may not seem much But it’s more than enough And no one can take that away Don’t even try to take that away Well I’m still sitting there In my favourite chair Wasting my life away Thinking and drinking Financially sinking Can anyone help me today Well there’s you and there’s me And the air that we breathe And the love and the life that we share It may not seem much But it’s more than enough And no one can take that away Don’t even try to take that away

You gotta rock and roll till the sun goes down Bump and jive wear a hound dog frown Shake a rubber chicken till it’s feathers fly Drink a lot of whisky till your feeling dry You’ll never know what shape you’re in Until you let that feeling in You gotta scream and shout, rock it out And shake it till the sun goes down Take a little something if you’re feeling blue Wiggle in the middle, forget you’re you Grab yourself a monkey and make it shine Strolling and a rolling till the end of time You’ll never know what shape you’re in Until you let that feeling in You gotta scream and shout, rock it out And shake it till the sun goes down Well if you’re short on time and don’t have a clue Here’s a little thing that you wanna do Live it up, rock it out and make it new Get it back together and when you’re through You gotta rock and roll till the sun goes down Wear a tall cat as a battered crown Dance yourself naked like you never learn Catch yourself looking when it’s not your turn You’ll never know what shape you’re in Until you let that feeling in You gotta scream and shout, rock it out And shake it till the sun goes down If you’re short on time and don’t have a clue Here’s a little thing that you wanna do Live it up, rock it out and make it new Get it back together and when you’re through You gotta rock and roll till the sun goes down Bump and jive wear a hound dog frown Dance yourself naked like you never learn Catch yourself looking when it’s not your turn You’ll never know what shape you’re in Until you let that feeling in You gotta scream and shout, rock it out And shake it till the sun goes Scream and shout, rock it out And shake it till the sun goes Scream and shout, rock it out And shake it till the sun goes down

I don’t mind if the sun don’t shine Cos I’d still feel the same It was a day like this when we first kissed In that carpark in the rain And I don’t mind how we spend our time It’s like I always say Day’s like these are all we need For things to be ok Do you remember watching the band run through their set Do you remember those early days we met Do you remember the back of the crowd standing on that bench Do you remember the Sunday nights we spent Cos we go way back when We were dancing to the band On the night when this began Well I don’t mind if the sun don’t shine Cos I’d still feel the same It was a day like this when we first kissed In that carpark in the rain And I don’t mind how we spend our time It’s like I always say Day’s like these are all we need For things to be ok Do you remember watching the band run through their set Do you remember those early days we met Do you remember the back of the crowd standing on that bench Do you remember the Sunday nights we spent Cos we go way back when

Take that ride, get behind the wheel enjoy the drive Cos they don’t make ‘em like this anymore You never really do know what’s in-store We’ve got the road ahead so let’s explore Come on let’s run to the sun In the early morning light clouds are high and sky is bright Turn it over engine’s on Our destination is in reach, heading down to Newquay beach We’ll make it there before the day is done Take that ride, get behind the wheel enjoy the drive Cos they don’t make ‘em like this anymore You never really do know what’s in-store We’ve got the road ahead so let’s explore Come on let’s run to the sun In the evening we’ll unwind, everyone’s arrived on time Drinking in the setting sun Splittie’s lined up by the bay, 25’s along the way Catch it all before the day is done Take that ride, get behind the wheel enjoy the drive Cos they don’t make ‘em like this anymore You never really do know what’s in-store We’ve got the road ahead so let’s explore Come on let’s run to the sun Heading back we’ll take it slow on the road along the coast We’ve got all the day ahead Cos every year we make it down in this classic camper van Running to the sun and home again Take that ride, get behind the wheel enjoy the drive Cos they don’t make ‘em like this anymore You never really do know what’s in-store We’ve got the road ahead so let’s explore Come on let’s run to the sun Let’s run to the sun

Kate 04:12
Mystified by something she cried Screaming like the lover in Wuthering Heights Was the scream on the plastic Or the cry from your heart In your eyes a growing confusion Looking to her youth to find a final solution To the conflict she draws on For her heart to grow stronger in a song So let ‘em cry for you, Kate I know that Everyone looks to you, everybody Being at last in love, Kate I know that You’ll be the first to lose James she cried, out of the album Get yourself a gun or be shot with your back turned The only heart that was broken By the tune she played out loud Of your age you are the oldest Christ you know when it’s hard to control it Friends fall like flies Off the wall you built to hide yourself away So let ‘em cry for you, Kate I know that Everyone looks to you, everybody Being at last in love, Kate I know that You’ll be the first to lose So let ‘em cry for you, Kate I know that Everyone looks to you, everybody Being at last in love, Kate I know that You’ll be the first to lose James she cried out of the album Get yourself a gun or be shot with your back turned The only heart that was broken By the tune she played out loud Of your age you are the oldest Christ you know when it’s hard to control it Friends fall like flies Off the wall you built to hide yourself away So let ‘em cry for you, Kate I know that Everyone looks to you, everybody Being at last in love, Kate I know that You’ll be the first to lose

When you look out your window what do you see Does the sun shine brightly is the grass always green When you step out of your door onto the street Where will this journey take your feet You’ll never know which way you got to go Until you hit the highway, let the river flow You’ll never know which way it’s gonna be Until you open your eyes until you learn to see What you need to see When you look out your window what do you see Is the world the kind of place you want it to be When you step out of your door onto the street What kind of people would you meet You’ll never know which way you got to go Until you hit the highway, let the river flow You’ll never know which way it’s gonna be Until you open your eyes until you learn to see What you need to see Ask yourself a question Do you do enough Each life should be a lesson In learning how to love You’ll never know which way you got to go Until you hit the highway, let the river flow You’ll never know which way it’s gonna be Until you open your eyes until you learn to see You’ll never know which way you got to go Until you hit the highway, let the river flow You’ll never know which way it’s gonna be Until you open your eyes until you learn to see

Heads held low as the rain comes down Kicking through the puddles on the rain soaked ground The sky is dark and you’re wet right to the bone End of season in a university town No one wants to be the last one hanging round I got a plan and I know where I am bound Cos I’m on my way back to summer Chasing yesterday And I’m on my way back home And I’m on my way back to summer Cos it’s always a better day when you head into the sun People stare down at their mobile phones Stepping off the pavement through the traffic cones It’s lonely in the city when no one wants to know It shouldn’t really rain at this time of year The town is pretty empty and the streets are clear I gotta go, I gotta get right out of here Cos I’m on my way back to summer Chasing yesterday And I’m on my way back home And I’m on my way back to summer Cos it’s always a better day when you head into the sun I love to feel the sunshine warm upon my back I’m chasing yesterday, I’m on my way back And I’m on my way back to summer Chasing yesterday And I’m on my way back home And I’m on my way back to summer Cos it’s always a better day when you head into the sun On my way back to summer On my way back home On my way back to summer On my way back home

Leaving 03:39
She turns her face into the wind As she starts walking away From where she used to live with them It was impossible to stay So she set her mind to leaving She couldn’t wait another day She’s not the child in her Mother’s eyes She’s like a flower that is growing wild If there’s something she wants she won’t be denied She thinks she’s old enough to know She says it’s time I’ve got to go She leaves them crying in the rain A case held tightly in her hand She only grabbed what she could take There wasn’t time to hang around When she set her mind to leaving She couldn’t wait another day She’s not the child in her Mother’s eyes She’s like a flower that is growing wild If there’s something she wants she won’t be denied She thinks she’s old enough to know She says it’s time I’ve got to go She calls up everyone she knows To try to find a place to sleep Get herself out of the cold It’s no life living on the street Since she set her mind to leaving She wouldn’t wait another day She’s not the child in her Mother’s eyes She’s like a flower that is growing wild If there’s something she wants she won’t be denied She thinks she’s old enough to know She says it’s time I’ve got to go She’s not the child in her Mother’s eyes She’s like a flower that is growing wild If there’s something she wants she won’t be denied She thinks she’s old enough to know She says it’s time I’ve got to go

about

Run to the Sun was made at home in Devon away from everything and everyone. The album grew itself, jamming around with my son Archie on drums, having fun and just keeping it simple. Rough and ready, quick and easy with only ourselves to please, I can hear my old band The Collaborators channelling through the speakers. The main themes seem to be of nostalgia and reminiscence, sunshine and happiness. It was fun to make and I hope it’s a fun listen as well.
